Gedcom Charts
Many sites give you the option to download your family tree in a format called Gedcom. TenGenChart has the ability to read these files and create our signature circular pedigree chart.
The website that has your family tree will have instructions on how to download a Gedcom.
Create a chart from a Gedcom file:
How to find the person ID:
Gedcom is just a big text file. All we need in order to find a person, is their ID. The Id you pass to this site must be found in your gedcom file. If not, you will get an error.
Here is some gedcom from ancestry.com (The ID is in bold):
0 HEAD
1 CHAR ANSI
1 SOUR Ancestry.com Family Trees
2 VERS (2010.3)
2 NAME Ancestry.com Family Trees
2 CORP Ancestry.com
1 GEDC
2 VERS 5.5
2 FORM LINEAGE-LINKED
0 @P1@ INDI
1 BIRT
2 DATE 8 Oct xxxx
So, for this gedcom file, the ID for the first person is P1. That is what I would put in the form above.
In order to make your chart, we will temporarily store your gedcom data in memory on our server. Once your chart has been made, we will destroy our copy of your data. This may change in the future, when we are able to give you the ability to generate multiple charts from just one upload.
